This site is dedicated to providing a one-stop location for CCW holders in Arizona (more states to be added later) to find out which Public Establishments have decided to ban law-abiding Concealed Weapons Permit Holders to legally carry a concealed firearm inside their property. This is their right, but it is also our right to take our business to places that do not deprive CCW Holders of OUR rights. We will also promote businesses who allow & desire CCW holders patronage.
It's been awhile since our last update. We have been waiting to see how the new law that now allows Concealed Carry by all (legal, law-abiding) citizens would affect restaurants and bars. So far, it seems only the usual suspects who fear any freedom regarding the Right to Bear Arms have issues. These people seem to have the idea that the new law will cause normally law-abiding citizens to start carrying concealed firearms and make them subject to losing their minds and deciding to draw a weapon and commit a crime, where they would not have done so previously because they did not have the gun on them. Sounds like a reasonable, left-wing argument to us!
According to some of our sources on the West Side, the Westgate Plaza, where the Jobing.com Arena is, requires their tenants to post "No Firearms" signs as part of their lease agreement. Maybe if these businesses started to complain to the landlord that they are losing business from this, the policy could be reversed.
Posting reversals: We have received reliable information that NYPD Pizza & BJ's Brewhouse's are CCW friendly establishments. Some of the early information may have been in error, but we are confident this new information is correct.
We are sorry to report that Joe's Crab Shack's all appear to be anti-CCW.
To those that would boycott AZ for SB1070. Don't forget that boycotts work in both directions.
What follows is a partial list of places that are boycotting or condemning our state for choosing to enforce the laws of our country. We suggest you avoid visiting or spending money in these places while they continue a policy of intruding on our state affairs. If we missed a place, please send us an email so that we can add it to this list.
Los Angeles, CA - San Francisco, CA - San Diego, CA - Boston, MS - Seattle, WA - Austin, TX - Milwaukee, WI - St. Paul, MN - West Hollywood, CA - Oakland, CA - Washington, DC - Boulder, CO. It is reported that New York City is also pondering action.....we'll see...
The Flyer for handing out to Anti-CCW establishments has been modified to add more information about places that are CCW friendly. More information is listed here.
Update on an establishment that had been listed as pro-CCW. While visiting Westgate in Glendale during the Coyotes Playoffs, we looked around a bit and found that The Yard House is NOT CCW Friendly (as previously noted). They are posted against firearms, as were Margaritaville, Gordon Biersch and a little place called Shane's Pit BBQ. We did not have a chance to check out all the places at Westgate and would welcome information from those of you on that side of town.
We had previously listed ALL Tilted Kilt locations as being anti-CCW. The General Manager of the North Scottsdale location has contacted us and requested to be taken off the anti list as they are NOT posting against firearms. Hopefully, the other locations will reconsider.
We and the other sites will be posting an updated flyer for distribution to your favorite places that post against CCW holders. It will have a page 2 with the logos of the well-known places that welcome CCW. Check back soon for page 2, which you can print onto the back of page 1 for easier distribution.
IHOP locations seem to respond to your inquiries. One man has gotten IHOP's in the Bullhead City, Kingman and Havasu to pull their signs....Nice work, Bob! Check for signs at your favorite locations, then talk to the managers.
Barro's Update: After speaking with the two gentlemen responsible for all Barro's locations, this is the deal: All East side Barro's (including only ONE Phoenix location in Ahwatukee, are CCW friendly. All West side Barro's are anti-CCW. Go figure, choose wisely.
We checked up on Majerle's Sports Grill and found no signs in the Chandler location. After speaking with one of the Majerle brothers, it is clear they are firmly anti-firearm. They are still waiting for their signs to come in
Random businesses that have posted no weapons or no handgun signs: Macy's, Retinal Consultants of Arizona, All of San Tan Village in Gilbert, Westcort Flagstaff Mall, Whole Foods Markets, Total Wine, Costco, IKEA.
Ray's Pizza has previously been listed as an anti-CCW chain. However, we were notified that the owner of the location at 7th St. & Bell had taken down her signs after a customer challenged the reasons for posting them. The owner confirmed that she has now taken them down after getting the facts from her customer and this site. Please stop in if you are in that part of town.
We tried to contact Red Devil Pizzerias to verify reports that they had begun to repost NO GUNS signs. They did not respond, so we have no choice but to re-list them as Anti-CCW.
MidFirst Banks (heavily promoted on Phoenix Suns broadcasts) has a notice on all branches that say NO WEAPONS.
We have a report that The Cheesecake Factory at Superstition Springs Mall is now posted, please check with each location to see if they have a different policy.
We don't love this Bar & Grill.....Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill in Mesa at the Riverview, is posting against firearms.
After some considerable efforts, Some Burro's has decided to remove all NO FIREARMS signs from their restaurants. Thanks to all who helped get this done.
Fuddrucker's has reversed their policy and is now CCW Friendly. Thanks to Michael at Wilderness for working this one and getting them to change their minds.
Arriba Mexican Grills has confirmed a neutral stance in all its restaurants and will not be posting against CCW holders. They have better food than Macayo's anyway!
Famous Sam's in Payson is the only one of this chain that we have found so far that is NOT posting NO FIREARMS signs. Skip the Buffalo Bar & Grill and visit Famous Sam's!
Slackers in Page, AZ has reconsidered and is no longer posting against CCW holders! We would like to thank the owner, Chris for listening to the facts, doing his own research, and choosing to take down the NO FIREARMS signs. Please visit Slackers if you are in Page, AZ.
Red, White & Brew Restaurant in Mesa is no longer banning CCW holders!
If you are on the road to Vegas, make sure to stop off at Eat at Joe's BBQ in Wikieup.
Show your CCW and you will get a discount on your meal.
It has been confirmed that all Fox And Hound Pubs and all Streets of New York Restaurants (SoNY) are posting - NO FIREARMS! We are working to see if we can change minds at SoNY.
It is also becoming apparent that all the Paul Fleming Restaurants (PF Chang's, Z'Tejas Grills, Pei Wei any others under the Fleming label) are not CCW Friendly. Check back for updates.
Strange as it may seem, Sonora Quest Laboratories posts against carrying firearms.
We have prepared a Flyer you can print and hand out to places that are posting against firearms. This flyer is now 2 pages and should be printed back-to-back so people will actually take and read it. The back page now has the names and logos of restaurants that have chosen to be CCW Friendly. Hopefully this will help places feel more comfortable in accepting the law-abiding CCW holder as a regular customer. It prints out fine in black-and-white copy.
Note: A few people have pointed out that although the flyer states that CCW holders undergo 16 hrs. of training, the requirement has been reduced to 8 hrs. Since a great many of us actually went through the 16 hrs of class, and other states still have this requirement, the flyer is still accurate and informative. If an anti-CCW person wishes to challenge our rights based on this point, it proves they really have no arguments to begin with. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
On September 30th, 2009, it became legal for Holders of an Arizona
Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW) to enter an establishment licensed to
serve alcoholic beverages, as long as the following criteria were met:
The permit holder cannot consume alcohol while on the premises.
The weapon must be concealed.
Arizona is now one of at least 40 states to have
such a law. This is not a new policy in the United States. If there
had been increases in gun violence or criminal activity as a result of
such laws, it would have been widely known and publicized knowledge
prior to becoming law in Arizona.
The Arizona Licensed Beverage Association (ALBA) lobbied heavily
against this law, even though CCW holders have gone through State
Approved training programs, undergone criminal background checks, and
maintain a level of personal conduct to keep their CCW permits active.
They do not present a danger to the customers or employees of any
business they may choose to enter.
Since CCW Holders are bound by the law, they will not carry a firearm
into a place which serves alcohol if they intend to consume alcohol,
however, criminals, which by definition do not follow the law, will do
as they always have.
So Restaurant & Bar Owners, ask yourself this question: Who are
you alienating by depriving law-abiding citizens of their rights?
There are thousands and thousands of CCW Holders in this state (all of
us over the age of 21), and we can spend our money where we are welcome
and avoid those places which give in to fear and ignorance.
It should be noted that the vast majority of businesses in this state that are not a Restaurant or Bar DO NOT BAN CCW holders from their property. There are some that do, and they will be listed on the Anti-CCW Page as well.
Notes
For the record, it should be noted that many restaurants and restaurant
chains have taken a position of "neutrality" regarding CCW holders.
While they are not "PRO-CCW", they also are not "ANTI-CCW", but
nonetheless are not going to post NO FIREARMS signage. These
businesses are going to be listed under the PRO-CCW page because they
do not ban CCW holders.
